Permissions & Security Audit

Description

Permissions & Security Audit is a plugin that runs a series of tests to check common security issues with the following areas:

  • File and folder permissions
  • File and folder ownership
  • WordPress configuration settings
  • Apache/PHP and hosting settings

Although this plugin will flag potential issues; it will not resolve these items. You will need to manually resolve them, use the help of a plugin or contact an individual who has the experience to help.

It is “potentially” useful however it simply lacks the finish in terms of functionality. While it reports items needing attention, 95% of the people who would run this would not have a clue how to address those issues. The Scanning of files and folders is inordinately long, and there is no way of telling of it is actually scanning or hanging. There should be at the very least a scrolling list of folders being hit, or a progress bar. Simply saying – Scanning – is meaningless past 30 seconds or so. There should be a way to actually apply fixes through the plugin. Not just a list of cryptic items that are an exposure and then leaving the user to try and decipher what they mean and what could be done to fix them. Much more work required, but as I say, it has potential.
